Ingredients
Scale
Filling
- 3/4 cup sweetened condensed milk
- 1 teaspoon peppermint extract
- 4 cups powdered sugar
Coating
- 3 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 2 teaspoons coconut oil or shortening
- Christmas sprinkles (green, red, and white, any shape)
Instructions
- Prepare Filling: In the bowl of a stand mixer or a large mixing bowl using a hand mixer, combine the sweetened condensed milk and peppermint extract. Gradually beat in the powdered sugar, one cup at a time, until a stiff dough forms.
- Shape Patties: Using a cookie scoop, portion the dough into 1-inch balls (about the size of a ping pong ball) onto a baking sheet lined with a non-stick mat. Press each ball down gently to form flat patties.
- Dry Patties: Allow the shaped patties to dry for 2 hours at room temperature. Flip them once halfway through to ensure even drying on both sides.
- Prepare Chocolate Coating: When the drying time is nearly finished, melt the chocolate chips and coconut oil together in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir continuously until smooth, then remove from heat.
- Dip Patties: Completely coat each peppermint patty by dipping it into the melted chocolate. Place the coated patties back on the lined baking sheet to set.
- Add Sprinkles: While the chocolate coating is still wet, gently press Christmas sprinkles on top of each patty for a festive finish.
Notes
- Use a non-stick mat or parchment paper to prevent sticking during drying and chocolate coating.
- For a stronger peppermint flavor, add an extra 1/2 teaspoon of peppermint extract, but be careful not to overpower.
- Substitute coconut oil with shortening if preferred, which will create a smooth chocolate coating.
- Store peppermint patties in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week or refrigerate for longer freshness.
- Allow patties to cool completely after dipping before storing to ensure coating hardens.
