Description

These Holiday Rice Krispie Treats are a festive twist on the classic marshmallow dessert, packed with crunchy Rice Krispies cereal, gooey melted marshmallows, colorful holiday M&M's, and sprinkles, finished with a drizzle of white chocolate. Perfect for seasonal celebrations and easy to make.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 6 Tablespoons salted butter
  • 16 ounces mini marshmallows, divided
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 6 cups rice krispies cereal
  • 1 ¼ cup holiday M&M's, divided
  • ¼ cup holiday sprinkles
  • 5 ounces Ghirardelli white chocolate melting wafers, melted (1/2 bag)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the pan: Line a 9-inch square baking dish with parchment paper and set it aside for easy removal of the treats later.
  2. Melt butter and marshmallows: In a large saucepan, melt the 6 tablespoons of salted butter over medium heat. Once melted, add all but 1 cup of the mini marshmallows and reduce heat to low. Stir continuously until the marshmallows are completely melted and smooth.
  3. Add vanilla extract: Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in 1 teaspoon of pure vanilla extract to the melted marshmallow mixture for flavor.
  4. Mix cereal and remaining marshmallows: Add the 6 cups of Rice Krispies cereal and the remaining 1 cup of mini marshmallows to the melted mixture. Gently stir until all the cereal and marshmallows are well coated and combined.
  5. Fold in candy and sprinkles: Fold in 1 cup of holiday M&M's and all the ¼ cup holiday sprinkles evenly through the mixture.
  6. Form the treats: Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish and press gently with your fingertips just enough to spread it out without compressing it too much, maintaining a light texture.
  7. Decorate and set: Drizzle the top with the melted white chocolate wafers, then sprinkle on the remaining ¼ cup of holiday M&M's and optionally a pinch of extra holiday sprinkles. Allow the treats to set at room temperature for one hour before cutting and serving.

Notes

  • Use any variety of holiday M&M’s you prefer, such as milk chocolate or peanut butter; peanut butter has a crunchier texture.
  • Ensure marshmallows and cereal are fresh to avoid stale treats.
  • Jimmies sprinkles (small rod-shaped) are preferred for their soft texture and appearance, but quins (flat circle or shaped sprinkles) also work well; avoid nonpareils for this recipe.
  • Feel free to swap out the holiday candy and sprinkles for those themed to any holiday of your choice.
  • Store the treats in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week.
  • You can freeze the treats for up to 3 months for longer storage.
